Grey Belt Approval

24/6/2026

We at Studio 27 Architects are pleased to announce that permission in principle has been secured on appeal for up to nine new homes at Land off Withybed Lane, Alvechurch.

The appeal decision recognises the site as Grey Belt land, confirming that it does not strongly contribute to the key purposes of the Green Belt and represents a sustainable location for modest residential growth adjacent to the village.

The proposal demonstrates a sensitive and considered approach to development, carefully responding to the site's rural setting, existing landscape features and relationship with the canal and railway corridor.

Opportunities to retain and enhance boundary planting and natural features will be explored through the next design stage, helping to preserve the area's distinctive character.

The Planning Inspector concluded that the development would not constitute inappropriate development in the Green Belt, would not undermine Green Belt purposes, and could deliver much-needed housing while respecting the character and appearance of the surrounding landscape.

The successful appeal was led by Bruce Frizzell, who provided strategic planning and appeal advice throughout the process. Studio 27 Architects continue to support clients with planning strategy, enforcement matters especially in relation to Listed Buildings and planning appeals, helping to unlock development opportunities and achieve positive outcomes on challenging sites.
